Director - Exceptional Education (Effective 2021-2022 School Year)
Plans, directs, and administers special education programs within Tucson Unified School District. Directs the instructional and curriculum services for special populations (PreK - 12th grade). Works in collaborations with the Language Acquisition Department (LAD) to ensure that English Language Learner (ELL) students’ curriculum and instructional needs are met. Works with TUSD leadership, Principals and Teachers to identify and assess student needs. Develops and implements programs designed to improve student achievement for Exceptional Education Students
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction
Valid Arizona Principal Certificate and Special Education Certificate, or appropriate reciprocal certification to meet Arizona requirements
Master’s Degree in a related field
Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills Experiences
Three (3) years experience in special education administration
Five (5) years teaching experience at the elementary, middle, or high school level
Three (3) years experience developing and managing complex budgets
Experience writing and managing grants
One year (1) of experience in interpreting and implementing state and federal laws related to special education compliance
Any equivalent combination of experience, training, or education
Doctorate in a related field
Administrative experience working with a diverse, urban population
Experience working with parents and the community on exceptional education issues
Experience in planning and delivering professional development to all staff.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE:
Must hold the Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card.
Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.
EFFECTIVE: 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR
LOCATION: Exceptional Education - 1010 E. 10th Street
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Bargaining Employees (NBE) Grade 6
FTE: 1.0 - 8 hours per day
WORK CALENDAR: 12 month
