    THE DISTRICT PROFILE

    The Tucson Unified School District is an urban school district encompassing 230 square miles in southeast Arizona, Pima County. The District serves 47,347, 61% Hispanic, 21% white, 9% African American, 4% Native American, 2% Asian American, remaining 3% multi-racial/ethnic heritage. In the upcoming 2019-2020 school year, the District will be operating 10 high schools, 10 middle schools, 47 elementary schools, 16 K-8 schools, 6 alternative schools and 2 infant and Early Learning Centers, for a total of 89 schools and programs.

    CLASSIFICATION TITLE
    DIRECTOR OF STUDENT RELATIONS

    REPORTS TO ASSISTANT SUPERIENTENDENT OF CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION

    SUMMARY
    The Director of Student Relations shall oversee a district department responsible for all aspects of student discipline throughout the district including review and analysis of discipline data, implementation of requirements from court orders, and development of strategic plans for implementation and training to achieve discipline goals established by the district. Manage and direct the ongoing implementation of Restorative Practices and the implementation of Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) at each school site as needed. Directs staff in developing corrective action plans (CAPs), review CAPs, and monitoring and modifying CAP’s to ensure efficacy. Review schools' use of exclusionary discipline to ensure that it is fair and equitable and complies with the District Code of Conduct. Analyzes discipline data on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance with the Unitary Status Plan (USP). Provides direction and technical assistance to school level personnel for student discipline-related activities described herein.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    Master’s degree in Education, Educational Administration, Public Administration or related field

    Five (5) years of teaching and/or experience in school site administration
    (2 years of Principal experience required)

    Three (3) years of program management and/or supervisory experience

    Experience in working with diverse constituencies/populations

    Verbal and written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions

    Knowledge and ability to use word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Bilingual – Spanish/English

    Arizona Administrator Certificate with a Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement, or eligibility to obtain such certification

    Experience working with and presenting Professional Development programs

    Doctorate degree in Education, Educational Administration, Public Administration or related field.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE
    FBI fingerprint background check (at employee’s expense).

    Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.
