Emergency Management Specialist (Effective 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR)
Job Description
SUMMARY
This specialized position provides support to Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) site administrators by coordinating disaster response or crisis management activities by exercises and drills, review of or preparation of emergency management plans and procedures for natural, man-made events, or technological disasters or other hazardous situations. This position is responsible for the creation, maintenance and update of district site emergency management plans and associated records consisting of printed media, and/or electronic.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or related field.
Two (2) years’ experience in law enforcement, juvenile investigations, or child social work with experience in school security, law enforcement or fire service, emergency management/planning.
OR
Six (6) years’ experience in law enforcement, juvenile investigations, or child social work with experience in school security, law enforcement or fire service, emergency management/planning.
AND
Two (2) years supervisory experience
Experience in public speaking.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written, graphic, and oral instruction.
Must be willing and able to carry and use assigned security equipment, including firearms, in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
Ability to work occasional overtime and/or extended duty hours due to the need to cover large scale security, emergency, or other unforeseen events.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Current or former Law Enforcement, or Fire Service certification.
Teaching experience to include an instructor certification through an approved Law Enforcement, or Fire Service.
International Association of Emergency Managers Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) certification
Grant management experience
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification
Certifications from FEMA in ICS 100, 200, and 700
English/Spanish Bilingual.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE
FBI fingerprint background check.
Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.
Post-offer/pre-employment physical examination and 50 lb. lift test.
Must hold a current Arizona Driver’s license and have accrued no more than the allowable points against Driver’s License as described under Governing Board Policy: EEB-R-1 Business and Personnel Transportation Services - Transportation by Employees.
CPR and First Aid certification
Bloodborne Pathogen training offered by TUSD Risk Management Department.
ICS 300 and 400 certifications are required within one (1) year of employment.
