    THE DISTRICT PROFILE

    The Tucson Unified School District is an urban school district encompassing 230 square miles in southeast Arizona, Pima County. The District serves 47,347, 61% Hispanic, 21% white, 9% African American, 4% Native American, 2% Asian American, remaining 3% multi-racial/ethnic heritage. In the upcoming 2019-2020 school year, the District will be operating 10 high schools, 10 middle schools, 47 elementary schools, 16 K-8 schools, 6 alternative schools and 2 infant and Early Learning Centers, for a total of 89 schools and programs.

    SUMMARY

    The Executive Director, Human Resources works under the direction of the Superintendent and is responsible for developing and executing organizational human resource strategy. The Executive Director ensures the organizational human resource strategy aligns with the strategic direction of the District. Serves as a member of the Superintendent’s Leadership Team advising district leadership regarding current and future human resource issues. Facilitates, serves, and supports the leadership development of District Administrators relating to Human Resource Management.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    Master's Degree in Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field.
    Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources Leadership.
    Demonstrated knowledge of the collective bargaining process, and state and federal law as they relate to human resource management.
    Ability to use high level interpersonal skills in order to maintain effective relationships.
    Experience developing and managing budgets.
    Experience facilitating the development and implementation of a strategic plan.
    Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.

    PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
    Three years of demonstrated experience in K-12 Education Human Resources administration.
    Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification.
    Demonstrated experience in process improvement or the re-engineering of a Human Resources Department.
    Experience in a large urban educational setting or school district.
    Bilingual (English/Spanish).
    Experience with HRIS/ERP implementation and management.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE
    FBI fingerprint background check (at employee’s expense).
    Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or
    proof of MMR immunization
