Language Support Specialist (Dari/Farsi) (Effective 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR)
Job Description
SUMMARY
Under general supervision plans, coordinates, and delivers direct educational support to students through translation services, both orally and written, in order to increase student academic and social achievement. Specialist work in the capacity of a mentor and may provide academic tutoring, social integration support, and act as an advocate between the District and the student. This position may also require informational translation between parents and school personnel as needed. Specialist may serve in certain circumstances as the liaison between Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) and the corresponding language community.
This position is contingent upon school enrollment and specific language needs, which may vary each school year. Language Support Student Specialist will generally serve specific language communities which may be underrepresented in the District.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Services, Counseling, or a related field.
And four (4) years experience in providing direct services and program oversight for a program or project involving school age children.
Or
Associate’s (or higher) degree OR 60 Semester-Hour credits from an accredited institution
Or
AZ Dept. of Education-approved Academic Assessment Test
And
Six (6) years of progressive experience in providing direct services and program oversight for a program or project involving school age children.
Language Proficiency in requested language may be demonstrated by any one of the following:
1-year verified work experience in translation; preferably experience working with youth or adults in educational interpreting and/or tutoring
Or
Nationally recognized Language Certification as approved by the District
Plus ALL of the following:
Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.
Verbal & Written communication skills in requested language and demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral communications in specified language.
Reliable mode of personal transportation
Availability to work flexible hours as needed, to include evenings and/or weekends
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Verbal and written proficiency in Dari/Farsi.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE
Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.
Must hold a valid Driver's license (Arizona Driver’s License required within 30 days of hire) and personal vehicle insurance coverage greater than or equal to the state required minimum for car insurance as described under Governing Board Policy: EEB-R-1 Business and Personnel Transportation Services - Transportation by Employees.
Reliable mode of personal transportation with evidence of auto insurance policy. Coverage must be valid throughout term of employment.

FTE: 1.0 – 8 hours per day
Work Calendar: 10.5 month
Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.
