Program Manager - GATE Programs (Effective 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR)
Job Description
SUMMARY
The Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) is looking for a Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program Manager who has proven experience in increasing student participation and achievement in advanced learning experiences as demonstrated by past references, data, etc. They will manage and implement strategic program plans related to Gifted and Talented Education Programming. The GATE Program Manager will utilize the Advanced Learning Experiences (ALE) Continuous Improvement Cycle to identify, evaluate and modify programmatic initiatives and strategies to meet identified goals. They must exhibit a strong commitment to supporting educators in insisting on rigor, breaking down barriers, aligning the work, and advocating for students. Understand and appreciate diversity; apply and use culturally responsive pedagogy and equitable practices to produce a respectful environment where every colleague feels valued. Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning at a personal level, at a mentorship level, and at a peer level.
This position is responsible for the following duties or tasks (though the list is not exhaustive, and may be supplemented as business needs dictate):
- Managing the GATE program, providing services to all TUSD Schools.
- Supervises and evaluating assigned personnel, including GATE itinerant teachers.
- Initiating, and developing district, staff and parent communications.
- Responding to staff and parent communications and concerns.
- Designs, supervises, organizes, and leads gifted endorsement and professional development trainings, workshops, and articulations.
- Coordinate with the Advanced Learning Experiences (ALE) Director and other ALE’s to develop, refine, and execute recruitment and retention strategies and other activities designed to achieve higher levels of minority participation in GATE specifically, and ALE’s in general.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or Education Administration, Curriculum and Instruction or related field.
AND
Two (2) years of experience administering or coordinating programs.
OR
Bachelor's Degree
AND
Six (6) years of experience administering or coordinating programs.
OR
Ten (10) years of progressive experience administering or coordinating programs.
Three (3) years supervisory experience.
Proven expertise of federal and state legislative requirements related to specific program, department or grant.
Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Arizona Principal PreK-12 Certificate.
Valid Arizona PreK-12 Teaching Certificate with Gifted PreK-12 Endorsement.
Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership or related field.
Three (3) years of GATE teaching experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE
FBI fingerprint background check.
Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.

Location: G.A.T.E Programs - 36th St & Campbell Area
Classification: Exempt Coordinator
FTE: 1.0 – 8 hours per day
Work Calendar: 12 month
Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.
