Reading Coach - US Department of Education (USDE) (Effective 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR)
Job Description
SUMMARY
The US Department of Education (USDE) Reading Coach will support schools in implementing four components of a Multi-Tiered System of Support in Reading model for students in grades 1 and 2: Tier I instruction, Tier II intervention, data-based decision making, and infrastructure. The USDE - Reading Coach will work with (a) the school’s Reading team, (b) Grade 1 and 2 classroom teachers, and (c) the interventionists and/or teachers who implement Tier II programs for Grade 1 and 2 students. The coach will support these staff to learn reading assessment and instruction content, skills, and practices that improve student achievement. The coach will have five schools to work with and will work one day a week in each of the schools.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Appropriate Arizona Teaching Certificate
Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Certain endorsement/approved area(s) may be required for highly qualified/appropriately certified purposes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Structured English Immersion (SEI) Requirement
Prior academic coaching experience
Two (2) years experience working with adult learners
Three (3) years experience working with diverse population
Three (3) years experience or training in a coaching framework or methodology
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING SKILLS:
Excellent written and verbal communication
Experience with administration and interpretation of screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring assessments, including working with associated online data systems
Experience implementing components of an MTSS framework
Expertise in beginning reading instruction based on the science of reading
Knowledgeable about current and past research in content areas and other pedagogies relevant to the coaching role
Familiarity with Tucson Unified School District policies and practices, including the current reading program. Adept at balancing and prioritizing professional duties before, during, and after school hours, as well as planning and preparing for these duties
Demonstrated punctuality, preparedness, organization, and commitment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE
Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.
Availability to work flexible hours as needed, to include evenings and weekends.
Willing to work in June and July to attend specialized training at an added duty rate of pay.

FTE : 1.0 - 7.5 hours per day
Work Calendar: 10.5 month
Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.

Probationary Contracts will be issued for any contingent Certifications, Positions that are 0.6 FTE or less, and certified employees within their first three years with the District.
