Job Description


The Permanent Substitute supports a geographic region in Tucson (TUSD Region). TUSD Permanent Substitutes full-time, benefit-eligible employees who are embedded within one of the five TUSD regions for the duration of a school year. The Permanent Sub will report to sites within their assigned region each day as directed by the Regional Assistant Superintendents office and the TUSD Sub Office. As an integral member of the Regional Team, permanent substitute teachers will need to be flexible, filling both short-term and long-term assignments, cover prep periods, and may be asked to provide lesson plans, student supervision and instruction, student assessments, grading, parent conferences, and collaboration with site staff.


Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate.


Valid Arizona Substitute, PreK-12 Certificate,


Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card.

Classroom Teaching or Substitute Teaching Experience

Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions


Valid Arizona Exceptional Education Certificate

Demonstrated success in engaging African American and Latino students
Bilingual (Spanish) endorsement

Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.


Effective: 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR

LOCATION: Multiple Sites - District-Wide

FTE: 1.0 - 7.5 hours per day

Work Calendar: 9.5 month

Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.

Internal candidates will transfer at a rate commensurate with their bargaining unit language. For more information on salary schedule, please reference the Employee Agreements Webpage.

Probationary Contracts will be issued for any contingent Certifications, Positions that are 0.6 FTE or less, and certified employees within their first three years with the District.
