Job Description

SUMMARY

Ensures children are transported to and from school, athletic events, field trips, and other TUSD activities and all essential functions of the school bus driver. Performs all duties and related tasks as directed from dispatcher, supervisor, or manager. Duties include driving unassigned routes daily and completing Behind the Wheel training for new school bus driver trainees and serving as a mentor to fellow coworkers. Work is assigned as needed...

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License, (CDL) Class B and current Arizona School Bus Driver Certificate and have accrued no more than the allowable points against Driver’s License as described under Governing Board Policy: EEB-R-1 Business and Personnel Transportation Services - Transportation by Employees.

2 years of School Bus Driving experience as a Certified School Bus Driver

Certified Behind the Wheel Instructor OR able to obtain Behind the Wheel Instructor certification within the first 30 days

Knowledge and understanding of current bus rules and regulations, Department of Public Safety (DPS) Minimum Standards, and CDL Law requirements

Ability to read and understand route cards

Ability to demonstrate mechanical skills as needed

Must pass a written exam with an 80% or higher to obtain Certified School Bus Instructors Certificate with the State of Arizona (DPS), if applicable

Speak, Read, and Write English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Current or previous certified School Bus Driver Instructor/Trainer experience/certification

Tucson Unified Super Sub Driver experience

Knowledge of the Tucson Metropolitan area.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE

FBI fingerprint background check required.

Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.

Must be certified as a Behind the Wheel Instructor with the State of Arizona

Post-Offer/Pre-employment ADOT Medical Certificate with 75lb Lift Test

Post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol screen.

Bloodborne Pathogen training offered by TUSD Risk Management Department.

FTE: 1.0 - 8 hours per day

Work Calendar: 12 months

Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.
